Dr. Patel is a founding member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Association of Arthroscopy. With his focus on improving safety and quality, Dr. Patel has trained surgeons around the world, specifically in developing nations, where Arthroscopy is valuable because of the reduced risk of infection. In 2001, he established Asia's first Psychomotor Skills Lab in Ahmedabad, India. The lab is a partnership among the public, private and academic sectors and trains surgeons and students in India and Southeast Asia in arthroscopic surgery. He was given Vishwa Gurjari award in 1988. In Jan 2004 he was given a very prestigious Gujarat Garima Award by the Prime Minister of India in Ahmedabad.

Veteran Bollywood actor Joy Mukherjee, who starred in several hits in the 1960s and 1970s, has died after a long illness in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Joy Mukherjee stepped into showbiz with the 1960 hit film Love In Simla. His popularity soared further with films like Shagird, Love In Tokyo, Ziddi, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon and Ek Musafir Ek Hasina. He was the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, a film maker and co-founder of Filmalaya Studios. His mother was Sati Devi, legendary actor Ashok Kumar's sister. He was the paternal uncle of actors Kajol and Tanisha Mukherjee.
